ClarkMUN XIV is a high school Model United Nations conference hosted by the MUN at Clark team of Clark University. Our conference aims to provide a platform for high school students to learn about international relations, diplomacy, and the United Nations. We believe that Model UN is an excellent way for students to develop their leadership and public speaking skills. Keynote Speaker
Ibrahim Ozdemir, PhD
Dr. Ibrahim Ozdemir, a visiting scholar at Clark, is a distinguished philosopher, educator, and environmental advocate with a diverse and impactful career spanning academia, international collaboration, and scholarly publication. Currently serving as a Professor of Philosophy at Uskudar University in Istanbul, Turkey, he also holds the esteemed position of Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Ozdemir's academic journey has been marked by notable leadership roles, including his tenure as the Founding President of Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep from 2010 to 2014.

With a commitment to global sustainability and ethical stewardship, Dr. Ozdemir has played a pivotal role in shaping international discourse on environmental issues. He was a key member of the drafting team for the Islamic Declaration for Global Climate Change in 2015 and contributed significantly to the publication "Environment, Religion, and Culture in the Context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2016. Most recently, Dr. Ozdemir has been a core member of the draft team for the groundbreaking “al-Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth” document, launched by UNEP in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 26, 2024.

As a distinguished scholar, Dr. Ozdemir's research interests encompass a wide array of philosophical topics, including normative ethics, value theory, environmental ethics, interfaith dialogue, and Islamic philosophy. He has shared his expertise and insights as a visiting professor at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Hartford Seminary, and Abo Akademi University.

Dr. Ozdemir is also a prolific author, with several acclaimed books to his name. Among his notable publications are "Care for Creation: An Islamic Perspective" (2022), "Rumî and Confucius on the Meaning of Life" (2020), and "The Ethical Dimension of Human Attitude Towards Nature" (2nd edition, 2008). He has also edited influential volumes such as "Globalization, Ethics, and Islam" (2005), co-edited with Ian Markham.
In addition to his scholarly contributions, Dr. Ozdemir has made significant efforts to promote philosophical discourse in Turkey by translating numerous philosophical texts into Turkish and publishing numerous articles on philosophy in various esteemed journals.
